The United Nations General Assembly adopted, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution that affirms the right of the Palestinian people to sovereignty over their natural resources.
The resolution was adopted by a recorded vote of 159 in favour to 7 against (Canada, Israel, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, United States), with 13 abstentions.
The resolution stresses permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources.
By that text, the Assembly demanded that Israel cease the exploitation, damage, cause of loss or depletion and endangerment of the natural resources in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan.
By further terms, the Assembly stressed that the wall and settlements being constructed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory are contrary to international law and are seriously depriving the Palestinian people of their natural resources.

The European Union (EU) has announced it mobilized €20 million additional financial assistance in support of the work of UNRWA, and €73.3 million to improve the living conditions for the Palestinian people in east Jerusalem and to foster economic development in the occupied Palestinian territory.
“The funding provided to UNRWA supports the Agency's efforts to ensure the provision of essential services to vulnerable Palestine refugees in the Middle East,” a press release issued on Thursday by the European Commission said.
“This will bring the EU's total contributions to UNRWA in 2018 to €153 million. Moreover, the EU made available an additional €73.3 million to support living conditions in east Jerusalem and strengthen resilience of Palestinians, as well as to promote economic development in all of the occupied Palestinian territory. This brings the EU support to Palestinians to a total of €350 million.”
Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, said: “We are confirming our strong commitment to support Palestinians. The EU additional financial support to UNRWA, which is a factor of stability in the region, will allow the agency to continue to provide essential services to vulnerable Palestine refugees.”
“In parallel, the EU is working with the agency to intensify fundamental reforms and tackle its recurrent financial deficit. In addition, we are investing in socio-economic development including by moving ahead on the critical project 'Gaza Central Desalination Plant' and improving living conditions in east Jerusalem,” Hahn added.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) at dawn Friday arrested five Palestinians during large-scale raids into different West Bank areas.
Local sources said that the IOF arrested Husni al-Najjar and Qutaiba al-Nawaj'a after raiding their houses in al-Khalil.
The sources added that the IOF arrested Jubran Jubran and another Palestinian whose identity is still unknown during Ramallah break-ins.
They pointed out that the IOF stormed several Palestinian shops in Ramallah, destroyed their doors, and confiscated their surveillance camera recordings.
The Israeli occupation army has earlier announced Ramallah a closed military zone and installed dozens of checkpoints at the entrances to Ramallah villages and towns following an alleged shooting attack on Ofra settlement.
The IOF at daybreak stormed the nearby Kobar village and raided many Palestinian homes.
Local residents said that the IOF broke into the houses of the Palestinian martyr Saleh al-Barghouti and his brother Asem, and took their measurements in preparation for their demolition.
Saleh al-Barghouti was shot dead on 12 December by Israeli special forces in Surda village, north of Ramallah.
The Israeli forces claim that Saleh carried out a shooting attack near Ofra settlement injuring seven Israeli settlers about two weeks ago.
Al-Barghouti's brother, Asem, whose whereabouts have been unknown lately, is accused of killing two Israeli soldiers in another shooting attack near Giv'at Asaf settlement, east of Ramallah.
The IOF last week blew up the houses of the Palestinian prisoner Islam Abu Hmeid and martyr Ashraf Na'alweh over similar accusations.

Israeli settlers assaulted Palestinian farmers, in the Masafer Yatta area of the southern West Bank district of Hebron, on Wednesday, and attempted to seize their lands.
Rateb al-Jbour, coordinator of the National and Popular Committee in southern Hebron said that Israeli settlers assaulted several Palestinian farmers in Masafer Yatta, according to Ma’an.
The farmers sustained multiple bruises across their bodies, while Israeli settlers also attempted to damage several dunams of Palestinian lands planted with winter crops.
Around 3,000 Israeli settlers live in illegal Jewish-only settlements in the Yatta region, according to the Applied Research Institute of Jerusalem.
The South Hebron Hills, known locally as Masafer Yatta, lie almost entirely in Area C, the 62 percent of the West Bank under full Israeli civil and security control since the 1993 Oslo Accords.
Masafer Yatta residents were expelled at the time of the establishment of a firing zone, in the 1970s, and were eventually allowed back, following a long court battle, but are now under the constant threat of being expelled or seeing their homes demolished.
