A group of extremist illegal Israeli colonists attacked, Tuesday, many Palestinians while picking their olive trees, in the area between Talfit and Qaryout villages, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian official who monitors Israel’s illegal colonialist activities, said dozens of extremist colonists invaded the Palestinian orchards, and attacked many villagers picking their olive trees, in addition to attempting to force them out of their orchards.
Daghlas added that the attack was carried out by more than 150 colonists, who came for a number of illegal colonies and outposts, which were built on private Palestinian lands.
He also stated that such attacks and violations always escalate during the olive harvest season, adding that the latest attack was part of numerous similar assaults this season alone.
It is worth mentioning that the Illegal colonists also frequently pick Palestinian olive trees and steal the produce, in addition to bulldozing and uprooting trees.

A group of illegal Israeli colonist settlers invaded, on Tuesday morning, Palestinian agricultural lands in Bruqin village, west of Salfit in northeastern West Bank, and uprooted 39 olive and almond trees owned by a Palestinian farmer.
Bashir Salama, the head of Bruqin Local Council, said the Israeli assailants invaded lands, owned by a local farmer identified as Jamal Othman Salama, before cutting and uprooting 39 olive and almond trees.
The invaded Palestinian lands are near the illegal Brokhin colony, close to bypass road #446.
The farmer, Jamal Salama, said that, in 2011, the Israeli colonizers cut and burnt 200 olive trees, and uprooted 40 olive saplings in 2017, to install water pipelines for their illegal colonies, built on private Palestinian lands.
It is worth mentioning that the illegal colonizers have cut, uprooted and burnt nearly 5000 trees, mainly olive trees, owned by several farmers, since the beginning of this year.
Israel’s colonies in the occupied West Bank, including in and around occupied East Jerusalem, are illegal under International Law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Israeli soldiers and employees of the Israeli Health Ministry invaded, Monday, a clinic run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Sahera Gate area, in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem.
Eyewitnesses said the soldiers and health department employees invaded the clinic, and attempted to break into its pharmacy, allegedly to document the available medicines, their descriptions and usage in addition to the place of manufacturing.
The invasion into the UNRWA clinic came just days after the Jerusalem City Council said it intends to shut down all UNRWA-run facilities in occupied Jerusalem.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat announced that the Agency’s operations in Jerusalem would be shut down, although many Palestinians depend on UNRWA for medical, educational and food services.
In response, UNRWA representatives said that the Israeli shutdown of the Agency’s operations is likely a violation of the agreements made between the Israeli government and the United Nations.
In addition, they questioned Barkat’s motives in making this move, which comes just two months before he is scheduled to leave office. Barkat has also repeatedly expressed anti-Palestinian sentiments, and has taken a number of measures to discriminate against the Palestinian residents of Jerusalem and to force their removal.
A report in the Israeli daily Ha’aretz noted that when Barkat made his announcement that he will shut down UNRWA in Jerusalem, he “didn’t give an interview next to UNRWA’s main Jerusalem activity center, in the Shuafat refugee camp. The camp, located on the opposite side of a separation barrier, is barely recognized by the city as a neighborhood and the city hardly provides it with any services. It’s UNRWA that steps in to provide the camp with education, health and welfare services.”
The Jerusalem City Council said it plans to shut down the UNRWA clinic in Shu’fat refugee camp, and in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, under the allegation that the UN-run clinics were not licensed by the Health Ministry, and the patients “can receive services from Kupat Holim health maintenance organization.
The Mayor claims that the 1,800 Palestinian students which attend UNRWA schools in Jerusalem would be “absorbed into existing schools”. But Israeli government schools are highly segregated, and those that are designated for Palestinians in Jerusalem are extremely overcrowded and underfunded already.
The city government of Jerusalem made no indication as to how they would carry out this plan – and Palestinian residents fear that there is no plan, and they will be shut out of schools and medical care altogether.
In addition, UNRWA provides trash service and cleanup for the refugee camp. With the Israeli government takeover, residents fear a backlog of garbage along with excessive fees being imposed on Jerusalem’s poorest residents.
The mayor’s statement claims that UNRWA is “an illegal organization operating to advance terrorism and incitement”. But there is no evidence presented to back this bizarre claim.
There is already a major shortage of classrooms, early childcare centers, medical clinics, maternity clinics, welfare and sanitation services in the Palestinian areas of Jerusalem.
UNRWA has, until now, been able to provide some of the needed services for Palestinian refugees who live within the city of Jerusalem. With the shutdown of UNRWA, the refugees expect that they will simply end up being more neglected and unable to access medical care, education or sanitation.
Attorney Nazreen Elayan told the Israeli paper Ha’aretz, “Instead of establishing infrastructure where needed, Barkat wants to take over existing infrastructure. We are fighting for years with the city to open more mother-child centers in East Jerusalem and it hasn’t done so. So now they’re going to take over the good clinics run by UNRWA”.
In it’s statement in support of Mayor Barkat, the city council of Jerusalem stated, “Barkat’s decision aims to blow up the lie of the ‘Palestinian refugee problem,’ which is part of the Palestinian Authority’s propaganda under UN sponsorship and encouragement, which aims to destroy Israel by eternalizing refugee status and the perpetual call for the ‘right of return’ to Israel,.”
Chris Gunness, a spokesman for UNRWA, told the paper, “The statement (by Barkat) challenges the independent humanitarian, non-discriminatory actions by UNRWA and doesn’t reflect the traditionally positive dialogue between UNRWA and Israel.”
And attorney Danny Seidman told reporters, “How can the mayor of Jerusalem declare war on a recognized international establishment that does no damage and is helpful? It’s all about theater, pure McCarthyism for the sake of Likud primaries”.

Israeli settlers, on Sunday morning, cut and destroyed about 40 olive trees in the town of Turmusaya, north of Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank.
According to local PNN sources, farmers who went out on their lands, today, found out that over 40 olive trees in their own lands, near the settlement outpost “Adi Aad”, have been cut down and destroyed.
This is the second consecutive attack on olive trees in the area during this week. This month is the season for “olive picking” in Palestine, known for its quality product of olives and olive oil.

Date: 07 October 2018: Time: 10:30 GMT: Two Fishermen Arrested and One of Them Wounded, Israeli Naval Forces again Reduce Allowed Area for Fishing. The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR)
Yesterday, the Israeli naval forces arrested 2 fishermen and wounded one of them as part of the Israeli attacks against Palestinian fishermen and preventing them from freely sailing and accessing the fish breeding areas.
Yesterday afternoon, The Israeli forces declared that they reduced the area allowed for fishing in the Gaza Sea to 6 nautical miles, deteriorating the economic and living conditions of the fishermen and inflicting great losses due to restricting their movement and denying their access to the areas where fish breed.
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 06:15, on Saturday, 06 October 2018, the Israeli gunboats stationed off the northwestern shore of al-Waha resort, northwest of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip, opened fire at the Palestinian fishing boats that were sailing within 2 nautical miles.
The gunboats surrounded a fishing boat manned by Safwat Zayet Mahmoud Zayed (42) and his brother Ref’at (29). The Israeli naval soldiers ordered both fishermen to take their clothes off, jump to the sea and swim towards one of the gunboats. Both fishermen were then taken to Ashdod Seaport without confiscating their boat.
At approximately 17:20 on the same day, the Israeli authorities released both fishermen via Beit Hanoun “Erez” crossing, noting that Ref’at was found wounded with 2 rubber-coated bullets to the left leg and thigh.
On 06 October 2018, the Israeli authorities decided to reduce the area allowed for fishing to 6 nautical miles along the Gaza Strip shores. This is part of the Israeli policy to impose restrictions on fishermen and target their livelihoods.
PCHR emphasizes that the attacks by the Israeli naval forces against the fishermen in the Gaza Strip fall within the collective punishments imposed against the Palestinian civilians.
Moreover, PCHR stresses that the decision to reduce the area allowed for fishing violates the right to work recognized by Article (6) of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Thus, PCHR:

- Calls upon the international community, including the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention, to intervene to stop all Israeli violations against fishermen and allow them to fish freely in the Gaza Sea.
- Calls upon the Israeli authorities to stop chasing the fishermen and enable them to fish freely, especially that they do not pose threat to the Israel authorities; and
- Calls for releasing the arrested fishermen and compensate them for their losses.

Israel's War Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Saturday ordered the reduction of the Gaza Strip's fishing zone.
Hebrew media sources reported that Lieberman ordered the Israeli army to curtail the fishing zone from 9 to 6 nautical miles following security consultations with Israeli officials.
Lieberman, in the wake of Gaza border protests on Friday, threatened Hamas to escalate the punitive measures against the Gaza Strip after the end of Jewish holidays.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been suffering from a crippling sea blockade for over a decade now.

Israeli naval forces on Saturday morning kidnapped two Palestinian fishermen off the northern shores of the Gaza Strip after opening fire at them.
A local committee documenting Israeli violations against fishermen said that Israeli gunboats opened fire at and intercepted a rowboat within two nautical miles from the northern coast of Gaza and rounded up two fishermen aboard it.
The detained fishermen are two brothers identified as Safwat and Rif’at Zayed.
Israeli gunboats are around Gaza fishermen almost every day, harassing them, shooting at them, damaging their boats, and making arrests. Sometimes fishermen are injured or killed during gunfire attacks.
Under the 1993 Oslo accords, Palestinian fishermen are permitted to fish up to 20 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza, but since then Israel has kept reducing the fishing area gradually to a limit of three nautical miles as part of its blockade on Gaza.
Fishermen and human rights groups also say that, since the 2008-09 war in Gaza, the Israeli army has been regularly enforcing a limit even closer to the shore.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Friday prevented Palestinian farmers from gathering olives in Salem town, east of Nablus in the West Bank.
Farmer Amin Ashtiyeh told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that his family went in the early morning to their plots of land near the road between the illegal settlements of Itamar and Elon Moreh east of Nablus, but Israeli soldiers intercepted them and prevented them from entering the area.
The farmer added that the soldiers ordered them not to approach the area at the pretext that there were hundreds of Jewish settlers performing rituals and celebrating on the road and nearby lands.

Israeli soldiers resorted, Friday, to the excessive use of force against the weekly nonviolent procession against the Annexation Wall and Colonies in Bil’in village, west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, wounding many protesters, and burning olive trees.
The Popular Committee against the Wall and Colonies in Bil’in said many Palestinians, accompanied by Israeli and international peace activists, marched from the center of the village, heading towards the olive orchards in Abu Lemon area, near the illegal wall, before the soldiers fired a barrage of gas bombs and concussion grenades at them.
Many protesters suffered the effects of teargas inhalation, and received the needed treatment.
The Israeli gas bombs and concussion grenades also caused fires in Palestinian orchards in the area, burning many olive trees.
The soldiers, stationed on military towers on the Annexation Wall, photographed the protesters, and prevented many Palestinians and international peace activists from entering the orchards to pick the olive trees, isolated behind the Wall.
Dr. Rateb Abu Rahma, the coordinator of the Popular Committee in Bil’in, said the protesters marched carrying Palestinian flags, and chanting for national unity, the release of all detainees and the Right of Return of the refugees.
He also called on constant solidarity with the al-Khan al-Ahmar Bedouin community, facing demolition and displacement by Israel for the illegal construction and expansion of colonies.

Under an agreement drawn up in recent weeks, Qatar will finance the purchase of fuel for Gaza’s power plant.
According to Haaretz newspaper, the arrangement, which is supposed to go into effect in the coming days, will allow a significant increase in the supply of electricity to Gaza homes.
“Israel hopes that this development, which should provide an immediate improvement to residents’ daily lives, will reduce the risk of a military confrontation with Hamas,” the newspaper said.
Gaza now gets around four hours of electricity a day. The Qatari aid, estimated to be tens of millions of dollars, aims to raise the average of power supply to eight hours a day.
Haaretz reported last week that talks on this issue had been taking place over the past few months under the auspices of the UN envoy to the region, Nickolay Mladenov.
Later, a breakthrough was reached at the conference of countries that donate to the Palestinians, which took place last week in New York alongside the UN General Assembly sessions.
Previous talks had raised the possibility of increasing the electricity supply from Israel by upgrading the power line from Israel to Gaza, but this proposal met with obstacles because the Palestinian Authority objected.
PA president Mahmoud Abbas refuses moves to improve the electricity supply in Gaza unless Hamas responds to the conditions he set for the national reconciliation.

Israeli settlers stole on Thursday Palestinian olive crops in Burin village, south of Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank.
Yehya Qadoos, head of Burin village council, told PIC that Israeli settlers crept into land lots belonging to Palestinian farmers and located near an Israeli military camp in the village, before they took away the olive harvest. video He said the theft has been carried out in the presence of the Israeli military. As Palestinians embark on picking their olives, considered one of the main income-generating seasons for thousands of Palestinian families in the occupied territories, Israeli settlers increase assaults on Palestinian farmers and grab their harvest under heavy military escort. |
