Head of the town’s local council, Yahya Qadous, told the PIC reporter that the lots to be confiscated include eight dunums of a secondary school property with 2 dunums of which had already been seized at a previous time by the IOF.
He added that IOF troops handed over a confiscation notice of seven dunums of the town’s land to his deputy who refused to receive it from the soldiers one week ago.

On Monday, four Palestinian medics, and despite being repeatedly assaulted and dragged by the Israeli soldiers, managed to rescue wounded Palestinians after the soldiers resorted to the excessive use of force against protesters on the main road leading to the military court, north of al-Biereh city, in central West Bank.
The four medics were filmed by various media agencies, performing their humanitarian duty, despite the military violations against them. They have been identified as Nisreen Amira, Ayman Qirret, Atiya Dweik and Mohammad Omar; they managed to provide the urgently needed treatment to wounded Palestinians, and even managed to take them away to hospitals despite the army’s attempts to abduct them. |
It all started when a young man was shot after the soldiers resorted to the excessive use against the Palestinian protesters and tried to remove them from the area.
The soldiers then injured the wounded young man’s friend, while was trying to help him.
The four volunteer medics rushed to the wounded Palestinians’ aid, but the soldiers assaulted them by first firing live rounds above their heads, then used pepper-spray against them, in addition to physically attacking them, but they remained determined to perform their duty, and managed to evacuate the two wounded Palestinians.
After ongoing assaults by the soldiers, three of the medics managed to rush one of the wounded Palestinian to a nearby ambulance, while Nisreen Amira, the 19 years of age volunteer medic, stayed behind with the second wounded Palestinian, trying to protect him and provided him with the needed aid, while the soldiers continued to strike her and point their guns at her.
One of the soldiers tried to drag the wounded Palestinian from his arm, but Nisreen protected him, and refused to allow the soldiers to abduct him, and insisted on providing him with the medical aid he urgently needs.
By then, the three other medics returned to the area, and despite suffering the effects of tear gas and pepper-spray, they managed to help Nisreen and evacuated the wounded young man to a hospital.
Palestinian journalists, who were also assaulted and some injured by the soldiers, documented the unfolding events, and filmed Nisreen, while struggling with the heavily armed soldiers, just to be able to perform her humanitarian and medical dirty.
After the assault, and the injuries she suffered, Nisreen smiled and placed the gas mask on her face, and said, “This is the third time I get injured by the soldiers, but I will continue to perform my duty; their attacks and violations will never deter us from this humanitarian task.”
During the Israeli army attack, the soldiers injured seventeen Palestinians, including eight who were shot with live fire, and assaulted many journalists.

Palestinian minister of education Sabri Saidem has said that Israel’s violation of the inviolability of the Birzeit University campus and its kidnapping of its student council head Omar Kiswani is a crime that must not go unnoticed.
In a news conference held in Ramallah, Saidam called on all local and international legal and human rights institutions to shoulder their responsibilities to curb such Israeli violations, describing what happened as “organized state terrorism and unprecedented insolence.”
“We assert that the International Association of Universities, the Association of Arab Universities, the parliamentary bodies, the human rights organizations and the academic institutions are demanded more than ever to bear their responsibilities and raise their voices towards such violations,” the minister said.
Last Wednesday, Israeli plain-clothes officers infiltrated into the Birzeit University campus near Ramallah and arrested Omar Kiswani, president of its student council.
Online video footage showed six men dressed in civilian clothing pinning Kiswani to the ground, kicking and beating him while a few of them fired gunshots on campus.
According to Birzeit University, the group attacked Kiswani, 24, in front of the student council building.
Another armed Israeli unit had detained the university's guards in a room and "proceeded to use their firearms against the students while providing cover for the kidnapping operation".
"They were carrying guns inside their bags, they disguised as students and started shooting in broad daylight," Sondos Hamad, coordinator of the Right to Education campaign, told al-Jazeera Net on the same day.
"They took him to the western gate of the university where Israeli military forces were waiting for him with their jeeps. We don't know where he is now,” he added.

The Palestinian Minister of Education in the West Bank Sabri Saidam on Sunday said that 340 Palestinian university students are being held in Israeli jails.
This was voiced during a press conference held at the headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society on the Israeli violations against Palestinian academic institutions.
Saidam condemned what happened at Birzeit University on Wednesday when a group of Israeli undercover soldiers broke into the campus and arrested the president of the student union Omar al-Kiswani after disguising as journalists.
Saidam said that a massacre could have happened at the university as the Israeli soldiers heavily opened fire during the arrest operation.
He described the attack as a "state terrorism" and called on the International Association of Universities and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to urgently act against these violations.
The Palestinian Minister pointed out that nine schoolchildren were killed while 603 injured in 2017 by the Israeli occupation forces, adding that about 311 students from various West Bank schools are languishing in Israeli lock-ups.
He explained that 352 Israeli attacks have been launched against 95 schools in the West Bank including break-ins accompanied by heavy firing of live ammunition, rubber bullets, sound bombs and tear gas canisters, vandalism of school property, and demolition warnings.
Undercover soldiers (Musta'ribin) are special Israeli forces who speak Arabic language very well and wear and look like Arabs. They are highly-trained soldiers who have carried out hundreds of assassination operations against the Palestinians.

Confrontations broke out on Sunday, between Israeli forces and Palestinian students of Palestine Technical University, in the West Bank district of Hebron, with no injuries reported until the moment, said director of students’ affairs department, Issa al-Amla.

Preschool children in the Naqab Bedouin village of Al-Sira prepare to board a school bus during the brief period between March and June 2017 when the Education Ministry provided school transportation.
Israeli authorities have twice violated a court decision to provide school buses for 3- and 4-year-old Bedouin preschool children from villages in the desert south.
Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel filed a motion for contempt of court yesterday, 28 February 2018, against Israeli authorities for twice violating court decisions to provide school buses for Bedouin preschool children from villages in the southern Naqab (Negev) desert region.
The motion, filed in Be’er Sheva District Court on behalf of parents from the unrecognized Bedouin villages of Al-Jaraf and Umm Namila, is against the Israeli Education Ministry and Al-Qasoum Regional Council.
During the past year, the Education Ministry and Al-Qasoum Regional Council have twice promised the court in two separate legal proceedings that they would act to provide transportation for 3- and 4-year-old preschool children from unrecognized villages in the Naqab desert. This commitment was approved by a court’s decision but Israeli authorities have violated the decision on two separate occasions and preschool-age children still have no way to get to school.
The second court decision was approved on 10 January 2018, during a hearing which was held at the Be’er Sheva Administrative Court on a petition filed by Adalah in which it demanded that the Education Ministry and regional councils fulfill their obligation to arrange a system of transportation for Bedouin children.
Following the hearing, a notice was submitted to the court on behalf of the Ministry of Education and the regional councils stating that transportation services would immediately be provided for children from Al-Sira and Al-Jaraf, and concurrently for other affected children.
However, authorities never followed through on this commitment.
Adalah Attorney Sawsan Zaher wrote in her motion that the authorities are in contempt of court due to their failure to abide by the two court decisions:
“Failure to abide by the court decisions amounts to a lack of good faith on the part of the Education Ministry and Al-Qasoum Regional Council. Indeed, [our] petitions were withdrawn in the wake of [authorities’] commitments that were subsequently validated by the court. The petitioners anticipated – and with reason – that the authorities would abide by their commitments.”
Attorney Zaher stressed that the authorities’ violation of the court decisions constitute a serious, ongoing violation of the most basic rights of the children and their parents:
“Due to the conduct of the respondents, the petitioners have been forced time and again to appeal to the legal system in order to obtain basic services – services which no one is disputing their right to receive, and which they have been repeatedly promised would be provided.”

This morning, armed Israeli border police entered Salaymeh neighborhood, in Al Khalil, Hebron. They advanced towards the schools, firing one tear gas canister and one stun grenade at school children at 7:45 am.
This happened after a single border police provoked the children by kneeling down and pointing her weapon directly at them. International activists also witnessed two bag checks performed on minors, boys no older than 13, an action completely illegal according to international law.
Also this morning, Israeli forces also fired two tear gas canisters from a roof top beside the Ziad Al Jaber school in the Jaber neighborhood at school children. As a result, many children suffered from tear gas inhalation and one child was hospitalized. The teachers rushed to children’s aid, while Israeli forces also prevented a psychology teacher from entering the school.
After the tear gas was fired, an army jeep was positioned outside of the school Israeli forces were stopping people at random and performing ID checks. The teachers remained weary as the children recovered throughout their lessons.
Tear gas was also fired at school children in the Queitun neighborhood, this morning. Today was a busy day for the Israeli armed forces. Palestinians approach this weekend’s Jewish celebration of Purim with caution. Only Wednesday and tension and violence seems to be escalating before and after school hours.
Children that grow up under military occupation are unfortunately accustomed to this kind of treatment on their way to and from school, all of them hoping to avoid hospitalization and someday see a free Palestine.
