200 Jordanian and Palestinian figures send a letter to Jordan's King Abdullah II appealing for the release of Ghazi Husseini, 75, member of the Palestinian national council.
The letter appealed for the immediate release of Husseini who has been detained by Jordanian Intelligence Service “without any legal basis,” especially that he suffers from a number of health problems.
Husseini is a resistance fighter who made a lot for his country (Palestine) and the country that hosted him and his family, the letter said.
The letter pointed to Husseini’s difficult health condition as he suffers cancer and other chronic diseases that made him unable to move easily.
Family sources affirmed that Jordanian security forces stormed Husseini’s house two weeks ago and arrested him without any known reasons.

“We’ve not yet been informed about the reasons why my cancer-stricken father has been held in custody by the Jordanian authorities,” Ghazi al-Husseini’s daughter told the PIC.
Speaking to a PIC journalist by phone, daughter of the member of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Ghazi al-Husseini, said a Jordanian security unit comprising 11 officers searched their family home in Amman on Tuesday and asked her 75-year-old father to go with them.
“None of those officers told us about the reasons for the arrest,” said Bana al-Husseini. “All that has been recently said about my father’s involvement in the latest events with the Palestinian Authority (PA) forces in Nablus is just counterfeit.”
“I visited my father last Friday but could not talk to him freely about his health and the reasons for the arrest due to the presence of Jordanian officers by his side,” she stated.
“My father has been diagnosed with serious cervical osteoarthritis along with rheumatoid arthritis, due to which he has been through excoriating pains. He has gone pale and he sweats constantly. He suffers from insomnia and extreme exhaustion,” Bana noted. “My father’s own and only concern is Palestine. He has always rejected any attempt to meddle in Jordan’s security,” she confirmed.
She quoted her father as stating that “Palestine’s and Jordan’s safety is one and the same.” “My father went into retirement from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 2008. He had last served as an official in charge of the Palestinian health insurance abroad.
He is currently a member of the PNC,” she further stated. The daughter added that the family members are on tenterhooks as they await al-Husseini’s release. The family slammed the Jordanian Red Cross for reneging on their promises to keep tabs on al-Husseini’s health status.
Head of the Association of the al-Husseni Lineage in Jordan, Samer al-Husseini, said the Jordanian security forces told the family that Ghazi al-Husseini will only be taken for a cup of coffee, expressing his shock over Jordan’s reluctance in disclosing the reasons of the arrest and the PA’s lack of concern regarding the case.
“Ghazi al-Husseini has never had a political position as regards Jordan’s home affairs. His political stance is only determined by the Palestinian cause,” said Samer al-Husseini.
The family raised concerns over a critical relapse to rock al-Husseini’s health status, especially that he had undergone sessions of chemotherapy and suffers from diabetes and cholesterol.
A well-known opponent of the PA President, Mahmoud Abbas, and a prominent anti-occupation activist, Ghazi al-Husseini has been taking shelter in Jordan for years as he is banned from entering the occupied West Bank.

Fatah leader Ghazi al-Husseini was arrested by the Jordanian security devices last Tuesday from his home in Amman, his daughter said Sunday.
Talking to a PIC journalist, al-Husseini’s daughter, Bana, said the Jordanian forces searched their home and ordered her 75-year-old father to go with them.
Bana added that her father has been diagnosed with several diseases and that the Jordanian authorities have not yet updated the family on the reasons behind the arrest.
“My father refuses any attempt to endanger Jordan’s security. His own and only cause is Palestine,” she stated.
Al-Husseini’s daughter added that though the Jordanian authorities allowed her to visit her father last Friday, he was unable speak up his mind regarding the reasons for the arrest and his health status as they were surrounded by Jordanian officers all the way through the visit.
A retired major general, Ghazi al-Husseini is a member of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), which is the legislative body of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
He is an opponent of the Palestinian Authority (PA) President, Mahmoud Abbas. He is also banned, by the Israeli occupation authorities, from entering the Palestinian territories.

Jordanian farmers spoke out against the damage inflicted on their agricultural lands by recurring Israeli wildfires erupting on the Israeli-Jordanian borders in the northern Jordan Valley.
Jordanian farmers said fauna and flora along the border area have been remarkably ruined by Israeli wildfires that burst out in the summer due to light bombs and explosion of mines.
Fertile lands have also been frequently burned near the barbed wires of the border fence under the security pretext.
The incident represents a flagrant violation of a deal struck between the Israeli occupation and Jordanian authorities in Wadi Araba over ongoing coordination in the area.
Over the past few years, more than 24 Israeli fires broke out in the area. According to preliminary estimates, the fires swallowed up an area of 55 donums planted with various kinds of citrus trees.
Jordan Valley Farmers Union President Adnan Kh addam said the losses inflicted by the Israeli fire on Jordanian farms during the past decade are estimated at tens of millions of dollars, stressing that Israel deliberately begins the fires each summer.
He added that the fires are a proof of Israel’s disregard for Jordan’s sovereignty.
Wildfires that broke out in Zour al-Menshiya area on June 26, 1996 led to losses worth 3,000 dinars. Trees worth 15,530 dinars were also damaged by the fire.
The latest of such fires broke out last year in al-Bakoura area. Losses were estimated at 23,495 dinars. Over 195 citrus trees, 100 forest trees, 40 olive trees, 10 pomegranate trees, 50 beehives, and five donums of barley crops, along with agricultural materials, were burned down.

The Homeland Protection and Normalization Resistance Committee in Jordan has strongly denounced derogatory remarks made by a senior Israeli official against the kingdom.
"Every once in a while, the Zionists release statements against Jordan, and the latest one was made by former minister of the Zionist army Moshe Ya'alon who said that 'Israel protects the Palestinian Authority and Jordan from collapsing," head of the committee Manaf Mujali stated on Sunday.
Mujali added that such remarks reflected that the Israeli plots have no boundaries, describing Israel as a "cancerous tumor that needs to be fully removed."
He called on the Jordanian government to respond to such insulting Israeli remarks and revoke the Wadi Araba peace treaty.

Jordan called on the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) to cease its escalatory measures against supervision personnel at the holy al-Aqsa Mosque.
Jordanian Religious Affairs Minister Wael Arabiyat condemned Israel’s intervention in the affairs of the Islamic Awqaf department and reconstruction works at the al-Aqsa Mosque.
He dubbed Israel’s interference a violation of humanitarian and international laws, particularly the resolutions of the UN and the UNESCO.
Recently, five members of the al-Aqsa supervision staff were arrested and interrogated by the Israeli occupation police before they were sentenced to arbitrary bans from the al-Aqsa Mosque and to steep fines.
Jordan called on the IOA to backtrack on such oppressive measures, respect the sanctity of the al-Aqsa Mosque, and cease break-ins at the site. Arabiyat hailed the determination of the Muslim guards at al-Aqsa and their willingness to defend its Islamic idiosyncrasy.

The Jordanian professional syndicates condemned the visit of the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri to Israel and his meeting with Israeli officials in Occupied Jerusalem.
In a press statement on Monday, the Jordanian syndicate council said that the visit shocked the Arab, and especially the Jordanian people, since it came a time of escalating Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people and the ceaseless illegal construction of settlements as well as the repeated storming of the Aqsa Mosque.
The council perceived the visit of Shukri along with Benjamin Netanyahu to Occupied Jerusalem as an implicit recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
It forms an unprecedented Arabic stand toward the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem, the statement highlighted. The council called on Egypt to defend the Palestinian Question rather than providing a cover for the Israeli schemes at the expense of the Palestinian just cause.

Tarawneh said the WIP, which will be held under the patronage of Jordan’s King Abdullah II, is an important global event held for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa.

The Jordanian Prime minister Abdullah al-Nsour declared the decision to stop the installing of cameras at the Aqsa Mosque because of Palestinians’ suspicion on the actual aims behind the project.
Nsour explained, in a statement on Monday, that the project is no longer consensual and said that Jordan respects the Palestinian opinions and finally pointed to Jordan’s absolute support for the Palestinians.
Palestinian and Arab institutions as well as activists had previously refused the project and called on Jordan not to install the cameras.
The Jordanian Awqaf ministry embarked last month on installing 55 camera bases and electric cords in order to fix cameras at the plazas of the Aqsa Mosque, according to the Jordanian Minister of Awqaf Hayel Daoud.
