Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which are sailing towards Gaza to challenge the decade-long Israeli blockade, arrived in Rotterdam city on Tuesday.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, former Swedish deputy Jan Stromdahl, who is joining the flotilla on the Falestina boat, said the main goal of the flotilla is to break the siege of the Gaza Strip and create awareness on the dire situation in Gaza.
Stromdahl said he has joined as a volunteer; he is also a sailor and wants to stand in solidarity with Palestinians.
"Israel must accept it sooner or later, we will continue to pressure Israel and we will show our opinion, we need to show that we will not give up the struggle," he said.
Karen Sanfridson, an activist aboard the ship, said it was important for her to meet Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and to show them the activities they were doing for them.
"I do not think Israel is going to let the boats approach Gaza; for me it is important and sufficient to influence the people in the countries we are crossing during the route," she said.
As part of this year’s campaign launched by the international Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), six boats started to sail on May 15, which also marked the 70th anniversary of the foundation of Israel -- an event Palestinians refer to as the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe".
The boats are expected to arrive in the Gaza Strip by the beginning of July.

Birawi said in a statement that the 30 activists who were on the ships were received by Dutch activists and members of the Palestinian community in Amsterdam.
Birawi added that a symposium will be held in the evening with the participation of activists and politicians on ways to break the siege on Gaza followed by a protest on Saturday in support of Gaza and the Freedom Flotilla.
The four ships are scheduled to visit some European ports, where solidarity events in support of the Palestinian people will be organized, before heading to Gaza.

The National Higher Committee for the Great Return March (NHCGRM) announced, yesterday, that a flotilla of ships is going to depart the Gaza Strip, in breaking the siege imposed by Israeli occupation forces for over eleven years, which led to a dire and unlivable situation in the coastal enclave.
In a press conference held at the out-of-action Gaza seaport, Dr. Salah Abdulati, member of the NHCGRM, said, “The ]Israeli[ siege over the Gaza Strip is an abhorrent and crystal-clear violation to the humanitarian international law, and is up to a crime against humanity; it constitutes collective punishment prohibited under all international treaties.”
“So, we have decided in the National Committee to announce the inauguration of the first voyage setting sail from Gaza and moving around the world,” he added., according to Days of Palestine.
The organizers did not mention any details about their initiative or whereabouts of the journey will stop, but indicated that they will kick off within few days.
They also set up a registration point, at the Gaza seaport, to prepare lists of patients and wounded persons before heading outside the Strip, as an attempt to break the naval blockade.
Earlier this month, three vessels with Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) set sail from Copenhagen on their way to the beleaguered coastal region, in an effort to break the Israeli blockade, as well.
As they will stop at several seaports in Europe to pick up demonstrators in support of the Great Return March, the ships are expected to arrive on the Gaza shores within two months, loaded with humanitarian aids and medical supplies.
Israeli occupation forces have violently seized control over humanitarian aid vessels, preventing them from sailing in or out of Gaza. But, the most horrific interception was in 2010, when the occupation forces killed nine Turkish activists on board the Mavi Marmara, and commandeered the vessel by force.

from Freedom Flotilla Coalition: Just before noon local time (May 23,2018), the Freedom Flotilla vessel Al Awda (The Return) was boarded by the German Coast Guard, at the orders of the German Ministry of Interior. They collected all the passports on board, wrote down everyone’s personal data, searched the vessel thoroughly, asked for detailed information about ports of call along the way to Gaza, and inquired about the whereabouts of the Swedish sailing boats traveling with us in parallel.
The Scandinavian crew on this ship are all veterans of earlier Freedom Flotillas and attested that they have previously been harassed by other Coast Guards from European countries. Of course, our vessel is international waters and are doing nothing illegal – and this is by no means standard procedure. The massive German Coast Guard ship had been tailing Al Awda all morning, and finally sent a rubber dinghy with a crew of four to check it out.
We are within an hour-and-a-half of Kiel, having arrived early, and are moving slowly so that the sailboats can catch up with us and we can all arrive in unison at Kiel harbour.
Reporting from the high seas off the coast of northern Germany.
The vessels:
Al Awda (The Return)
Hurriya (Freedom),
Falestine (Palestine)Mairead (for Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire)
The boats are scheduled to arrive in Kiel from Copenhagen on Wednesday May 23 and will be in port until Friday morning May 25. A reception is expected at 6PM. The boats will visit European ports on their way to challenge the illegal Israeli-Egyptian blockade of Gaza in late July.
The Freedom Flotilla is sailing in 2018 for the Right to a Just Future for Palestine. We challenge the blockade of Gaza and demand an end to our governments’ complicity with the blockade, which has created a humanitarian crisis, with civilians lacking clean water, electricity, and medical care. For more information about our mission and about the blockade of Gaza, see https://jfp.freedomflotilla.org/about-just-future-palestine
Participants on board Al Awda include Zohar Chamberlain Regev, Israeli Spanish resident and Freedom Flotilla Coalition boat leader; Elizabeth Murray, former Deputy National Intelligence Officer from the United States; Mikkel Grüner, Danish national and city councillor in Bergen, Norway; indigenous activist Heather Milton-Lightening from Canada, professor of Business Nazari Ismail and CEO of MyCARE Malaysia Kamarul Zaman, both from Malaysia; sailor and human rights advocate Charlie Andreasson from Sweden.
On Thursday afternoon May 24 in Kiel, the boats will be met by Reiner Braun, Co-President of the International Peace Bureau in Berlin. Braun comments: “The blockade of Gaza violates the human rights of Palestinian civilians. If unaddressed the blockade is likely to lead to more war in the future as it has in the past. As peace advocates we must challenge this human rights violation and end it.”

The 2018 Gaza Freedom Flotilla, filled with humanitarian aid and activists from all over the world, is on its way from Sweden in what is expected to be a 75-day trip to Gaza. After two successful voyages in 2008 and 2009, Israel has blocked such attempts, including ramming boats and once killing 10 of those on board. Today it was harassed by the German Coast Guard. The Israeli Air Force fired, on Tuesday at dawn, several missiles at the Gaza Sea Port, west of Gaza City, targeting at least two boats prepared for welcoming the Freedom Flotilla boat that is currently sailing to the besieged and impoverished coastal region.
Media sources in Gaza said the Israeli missiles targeted two boats in the Gaza Port, and added that the army fired at least three missiles into the port.
Palestinian Civil Defense teams rushed to the port to extinguish the fire; damage was reported but no injuries.
The journey is expected to take more than two months, as the ships will stop at several ports in Europe to hold demonstrations in support of the Great Return March, which began March 30 and saw more than 3,500 Palestinians shot by Israeli sniper fire. Those protests ended on May 15, a known to Palestinians as “Nakba day,” or “day of catastrophe,” but celebrated in Israel as its independence day.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said the Flotilla Boat to Gaza is expected to arrive in Gaza in late July. The ships left the port of Copenhagen Denmark, heading to Kiel and Wilhelshfin in Germany before traveling to Gaza.
Three ships have already left Denmark, Monday, and a fourth will be joining them en route as they head to the Gaza Strip.
Four ships with the Freedom Flotilla Coalition are making their way to the besieged Gaza Strip, Gaza Strip.
The Flotilla boat is named Al-Awda (The Return), which refers to the Palestinian refugees’ Right Of Return to their homeland, Palestine. The right of return for refugees is an inalienable right, guaranteed by United Nations and Security Council resolutions, and denied by Israel.

A four-ship Freedom Flotilla on Tuesday has set sail for the Gaza Strip to challenge Israel’s decade-old blockade of the besieged territory.
The Al-Awda, Arabic for The Return, vessel set sail a week ago from Norway and linked up with three other boats in Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday, before beginning a tour of European ports which will end in the Gaza Strip.
The boat was named to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, or Catastrophe, in which more than 700,000 Palestinians fled or were forcibly expelled from their homes during the establishment of the Israeli state.
A spokesperson of the flotilla told Al Araby Al Jadeed that the participants want to send a message that: “The Palestinian cause is not alone or isolated; many freemen around the world are advocates for this just cause.”
Volunteers will join the multinational fleet for different legs of the journey, with a select group assigned to participate in the final run to Gaza.
“The blockade of Gaza is in its 11th year. It is such a gross violation of international law that it can be characterized as a crime against humanity,” participant Mikkel Grüner, a Danish national who is city councilor in Bergen, Norway, said.
This year’s freedom flotilla comes just weeks after Israeli forces opened fire on demonstrators in Gaza protesting for the right of return, killing more than 60.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition on Sunday announced that al-Awda vessel is set to leave Norway toward Gaza on 15th May to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1948 Nakba.
The Coalition said in a statement published by the International Committee to Break the Siege that the vessel will sail among a new campaign to break the siege on Gaza which will be launched from northern Europe under the slogan "for a just future for Palestinians".
Zaher Birawi, a founding member of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, said that this year's campaign to break the siege will have special significance because it will be launched in conjunction with the peak of the Great March of Return in Gaza which demands the return of all Palestinian refugees to their lands from which they were expelled in 1948.
Deputy chairman of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation in Istanbul Huseyin Oruc said in a press statement that the new campaign is intended to raise awareness about the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza under unjust and inhumane blockade and express support for the Palestinian refugees' right of return.
The ship is scheduled to visit some European ports in Britain, Italy, Spain and Greece before heading to Gaza.

Zahir Birawi, head of the International Committee to Break the Siege, has said that the Freedom Flotilla Coalition constantly seeks to exert political and media pressures on the Israeli occupation state to force it to end its unjust blockade on the Gaza Strip.
In recent press remarks, Birawi, also a founding member of the coalition, said that many anti-siege activities would be organized next year, including a new attempt by the coalition to break Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza.
He added that the coalition has plans to send one ship or more to Gaza in 2018.
“The Freedom Flotilla Coalition is composed of a large number of civil society organizations that work in the field of political affairs and have solidarity with the Palestinian people,” he said.
The anti-siege activist affirmed that the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and the International Committee to Break would make efforts to reactivate the international solidarity with the besieged Strip.
“Any ships to be dispatched will not be for relief purposes or financial support because we believe that this the duty of international organizations involved in providing aid and development projects. We want to launch media and political campaigns that pressure the occupation state to assert the Palestinians’ right to a waterway that facilitates the movement of citizens and goods from and to the world,” he underlined.

The spokeswoman of the Swedish organization “Ship to Gaza”, Jeannette Escanilla, said that the organization plans to send a ship to Gaza next year in order to break the decade-long Israeli siege.
Escanilla told Anadolu news agency that the Swedish organization launched on Sunday campaigns across the Swedish cities in order to collect donations for funding the campaign slated to sail with the 9-meter-long boat. It was named after the Northern Irish woman who won the Nobel Prize in 1975, Mairead Maguire.
Maguire was among female activists who exerted efforts to break the Gaza siege. She was detained by Israeli police in 2010 at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv and was banned from entering 1948 Occupied Palestine, Escanilla pointed out.
