Medical personnel pull a stretcher on April 7, 2014 at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society hospital where they transport a Palestinian who was injured during clashes at the refugee camp of Miyeh Miyeh near the southern Lebanese port of Sidon
Five Palestinians were killed on Monday in clashes between two armed groups in the Palestinian Mieh Mieh refugee camp in southern Lebanon, a medical source told AFP.
"Five dead and more than 20 injured were brought to hospital after clashes between armed groups," the source in the Palestinian Red Crescent hospital in the southern city of Sidon said.
Both Mieh Mieh and Ein al-Helweh, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, are in Sidon.
A Palestinian source in the camp said the groups involved in the clashes were not officially affiliated with any major faction.
He named them as the Ansar Allah group, led by a former member of the Fatah faction, and the Shuhada al-Awda group, whose leader is close to another former Fatah member, Mohammed Dahlan.
The medical source said Shuhada al-Awda's leader and one of his brothers were among those killed.
The secretary-general of the Fatah movement for southern Lebanon said the dispute between the groups began several weeks ago as a personal disagreement between their members.
He said the clashes had stopped and efforts were under way to restore calm in the camp.
More than 400,000 Palestinians, refugees and their descendants, live in camps throughout Lebanon.
Under a long-standing agreement, Lebanese security forces do not enter the camps, where armed Palestinian groups regularly clash with each other.

Khaled Abu Rashed 19
Two Palestinian refugees were proclaimed dead on Saturday as a result of the hostilities raging in war-torn Syria, according to the action group for the Palestinians in Syria. In a press release, the action group said that 50-year-old Muhannad Qadi, a Palestinian resident of Homs city, died of serious wounds he sustained when a mortar shell fell outside a mosque in Insha'aat neighborhood.
A young refugee named Khaled Abu Rashed also died of wounds he had sustained about two months ago when a projectile exploded in Muhafaza (province) plaza in Damascus.
The group noted that the young man was a resident of Al-Yarmouk refugee camp before the armed violence in the camp forced him and his family to live in Kudsiya town in Damascus countryside.
Meanwhile, a state of frustration has prevailed among the Palestinian refugees in Al-Yarmouk camp after the failure of the negotiations aimed at neutralizing the camp between a delegation of 14 Palestinian factions and the militant groups.
Consequently, the distribution of humanitarian aid and all efforts to help some refugees with medical conditions to leave Al-Yarmouk camp were also halted after the collapse of the fragile ceasefire in the camp.
In Kudsiya town, thousands of Palestinian families have considered getting back to their homes in Al-Yarmouk camp because of the tight blockade imposed on the town by the Syrian regime forces.

Palestinian refugee Rushdie Madani
Palestinian refugee Rushdie Madani died in Syria on Friday of starvation due to the lack of food and medicine after more than nine months of tightened siege on Yarmouk refugee camp, bringing the number of victims of starvation to 142 martyrs in the besieged camp. According to Action Group for Palestinians in Syria on Friday, the Khan Sheikh refugee camp was subjected on Friday to heavy shelling, which led to significant damage to civilian property.
It said that Daraa refugee camp has witnessed violent clashes between the Free Syrian Army and Syrian Regime Forces that led to continued shelling on the camp.
On the other hand, food aid supplies were distributed in Yarmouk besieged camp in Damascus amid the continued siege imposed on it for nine months by the Syrian army and other allied armed groups.
Group: 142 refugees have died in Yarmouk since June
A Syria-based monitoring group said Saturday that it had recorded the deaths of 142 people in Yarmouk refugee camp from hunger and lack of medical care since June 2013.
In a statement, the Workforce for Palestinians in Syria identified the most recent victim of a regime-imposed siege on the Damascus camp as Rushdi al-Madani, who died Friday of "hunger and dehydration."
Humanitarian aid to the camp has been limited throughout the bouts of fighting, but 500 food parcels were allowed to enter the camp on Friday, the statement said.
It added that the nearby neighborhood of Khan al-Sheikh was bombarded Friday, especially its west side, which was seriously damaged.
Meanwhile, Daraa refugee camp in southern Syria also witnessed fierce clashes in recent days between rebels and the Syrian army. The clashes limited residents' freedom of movement, the statement said.
After rebels seized control of the Palestinian refugee camp in December 2012, Yarmouk became embroiled in the armed fighting taking place across Syria and came under heavy regime assault.
Regime forces eventually encircled the camp and in July imposed a siege on the camp, leading to a rapid deterioration of living conditions.
Fatah leader Abbas Zaki told Ma'an in mid-October that Yarmouk's population of 250,000 had dwindled to 18,000 after two and a half years of conflict in Syria.
The UN Agency for Palestine refugees has managed to deliver sporadic shipments of humanitarian aid to Yarmouk since January, in between periods of fighting in the camp.
The Syrian conflict, which began as peaceful protests in March 2011 but developed into a civil war, has killed more than 130,000 people and prompted millions to flee their homes.
More than 760,000 Palestinians -- estimated today to number 4.8 million with their descendants -- were pushed into exile or driven out of their homes in the conflict surrounding Israel's creation in 1948.
