They demanded that politicians speak out and stop U.S. support for the bloodshed.
SPEAKER ONE: We are here as Jewish New Yorkers. We are with organizations, Jewish Voice for Peace and Jews Say No. And we are here to say to our senators, Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer, that they have to condemn the killing of protesters in Gaza and they have to support the right of Palestinians to live in freedom and to go back to their homes. Palestinians in Gaza have been protesting for the past six weeks against this siege that lays on Gaza and demanding the right of return that they deserve.
And seventy percent of the population of Gaza are refugees or descendants of refugees. Israel has reacted to these demonstrations by killing and unarmed protesters. And we’re here to tell our senators that they must condemn these killings and must support the Palestinian right of return.
SPEAKER TWO AND DEMONSTRATORS: Palestinians have the right to live in freedom, the right to return home. We have been so inspired by the unbelievable organizing coming out of Gaza.
SPEAKER THREE AND DEMONSTRATORS: To campaigns. To show how you can support Palestinian rights, whether you’re a teacher, you’re a doctor, you work at a coffee shop, there are ways you can contribute to the BDS movement.
SPEAKER FOUR AND DEMONSTRATORS: Ahmed Rashid was a freedom fighter and he taught us how to fight. We’re gonna fight all day and night until we get it right. Which side are you on, Chuck Schumer, which side are you on, Gillibrand? Which side are you on, Chuck Schumer, which side are you on, Gillibrand?
SPEAKER FIVE: We’re here because we are enraged, and we are sad, and we are determined to stand with Palestinians, especially in this historic and very tragic week and six weeks of massacres of Gazans near the fence that the Israelis put up. The systematic sniping and killing of mostly unarmed protesters is unspeakable, and it’s also- frankly, I’m a political scientist and a student of international law.
It’s a violation of international law. As the entire boycott and siege on Gaza for the last eleven and more years has been a violation of international law. Gazans were protesting, in part, because of the anniversary of the Nakba, The Catastrophe, which was the years of 1947-49, when there were massive expulsions Palestinians from their ancestral homes and villages, seven hundred and fifty thousand Palestinians expelled.
Most of those living in Gaza are refugees from that time, or their descendants. Fifty percent of them are children, so, living in conditions where the water is absolutely undrinkable- so they’re being poisoned by the water in the ground. They’re being bombarded systematically and periodically, and so munitions are poisoning their environment. They are not allowed out of Gaza.
Gaza is strip of land with two million people compressed there. Many people often use the phrase, “it’s an open-air prison.” I actually think it’s more like a concentration camp. And the right to protest those conditions is absolutely a human right. So, to kill people who are peacefully- and very much unarmed- nonviolently protesting those conditions and also calling attention to the expulsion of Palestinians seventy years ago, and ongoing to this day, is a human right.
So, we’re from Jewish Voice for Peace. We stand with Palestinians, we stand with human rights, and we want the senators, who work in this building and supposedly represent us, to hear our voices and to speak out, as- just as humane, ethical people, if not in their politics. They’re more worried about getting reelected. They’re more worried- but they have to listen up, because the times are changing.
Not all Jews, and not even the majority of Jews, support these policies of the Israeli government. And even in New York City, we’re here to say, “We are Jews, we are New Yorkers, and we will not vote for you if you do not speak out against these atrocities.”.

Spokesperson for the Turkish president İbrahim Kalın on Thursday said that the Islamic summit to be held in Istanbul Friday will discuss the practical steps to be made by Islamic countries to defend the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem.
This was said in a statement released by Kalın Thursday on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit which will be held with the participation of presidents of the OIC member states under the auspices of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Kalın pointed out that the Islamic summit will discuss the violation of international law committed by the US administration by transferring its embassy to Jerusalem, in addition to the serious developments that have emerged after the killing of Palestinian civilians taking part in Gaza peaceful demonstrations.
Kalın stressed that the Palestinian cause does not only concern the Islamic countries, but it is also a common issue for all those who believe in law and justice.
"The Islamic summit will discuss steps to mobilize international public opinion to end injustice in Palestine," he added.

Israel has come under international pressure after its border forces on Monday killed some 60 Palestinians protesting against the transfer the same day of the US embassy to Jerusalem.
More than 100 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli snipers in seven weeks of protests calling for the right of return.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), in a statement on Wednesday, said that despite the attempt to hinder the magnitude of the diplomatic, political, and moral crisis facing the United States and Israel, after the declaration of President Donald Trump on Jerusalem, the transfer of the Embassy of his country to it, and Washington’s unlimited support to the occupation and its crimes and serious violations of international law, international legitimacy, and resolutions, the international community declared firm positions against Trump’s Declaration and the occupation’s crimes practiced against defenseless people, especially the massacre committed by the occupation soldiers against the unarmed participants in the Right of Return marches in the Gaza Strip, which reflected an international consensus on the justice of the Palestinian cause, the rejection of Trump’s Declaration, the transfer of the embassy, and the condemnations and criticism of the occupation authorities practices and violations ,which is evident in the speeches and positions of 14 countries in the Security Council, accusing the Security Council’s position regarding the US veto.
“This is in addition to the practical diplomatic steps taken by many countries in the world to express their stances, as some of them withdrew their ambassadors and others chose to summon their ambassadors from the occupying state, furthermore, several countries publicly demanded the formation of a fair and transparent commission of inquiry for the crimes of occupation, and the statements of condemnations issued in the name of senior officials in many countries,” MOFA added, according to the PNN.
The Ministry said that it highly appreciates and thanks all states that stood by the Palestinian people at this critical and delicate stage, as it affirms that this international consensus would not have been possible without the great efforts of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian diplomacy.
The entire world is united in condemning the crimes of the occupation. The entire world, in its rejection of Trump’s Declaration and the transfer of the embassy, stated that they stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and with the martyrs and wounded Palestinians who have fallen, in clear reference to the failure of the efforts of the United States, Israel, and their allies to exclude the Palestinian conflict from the center of international attention and the permanent agenda of the international community, it added.

Tunisian unions have called for taking swift steps to close the US embassy in the country and enact legislation criminalizing normalization with Israel in response to the US embassy opening in Occupied Jerusalem and the mass murder of unarmed protesters in Gaza last Monday.
This came in a sit-in organized on Wednesday in the capital city, Tunis, by the Union of Tunisian Magistrates, the Tunisian Bar Association, the Tunisian Young Lawyers Association, and the Unions of Judicial and Bar Clerks.
During the sit-in, a spokesman for the unions stated that the US administration’s declaration of Occupied Jerusalem as an Israeli capital and the relocation of its embassy were “a blatant attack on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and a provocative act against them.”
He condemned Israel’s systematic killing of unarmed Palestinian civilians defending their legitimate rights and expressed their support for all Palestinian legal efforts to prosecute Israeli war criminals.
The spokesman also urged members of the Tunisian parliament to adopt a law criminalizing any step aimed at normalizing relations with the Israeli occupation state and called for closing the US embassy in Tunis.
He emphasized that Jerusalem would remain an Arab city and the eternal capital of Palestine.

Egypt's al-Azhar Mosque on Tuesday evening announced that it will send an urgent aid convoy to the Gaza Strip after 62 Palestinians were killed and over 3,000 injured in an Israeli massacre near Gaza's eastern border.
The convoy includes about 50 tons of food and humanitarian aid in addition to two vehicles loaded with medical supplies especially those needed for surgeries and emergency cases.
Al-Azhar al-Sharif issued a statement Monday condemning the heinous crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Al-Azhar said in its statement that the Israeli forces deliberately targeted unarmed demonstrators while they were marching peacefully on the 70th anniversary of the Nakba killing dozens and injuring hundreds.
Al-Azhar Observer for Combating Terrorism condemned the US embassy transfer to Occupied Jerusalem, saying that what Washington did is an aggression on the rights of the Palestinian people.
Al-Azhar Observer said that relocating the US embassy is a kind of political extremism and a violation of international conventions that undermines any possible peace process in the region and paves the way for more violence and instability.
At least 62 Palestinians were killed and about 3,188 injured in Gaza on Monday after the Israeli occupation forces targeted the civilians protesting in the eastern border areas with live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets and teargas canisters.
Palestinians marched in Gaza on Monday mainly in protest at the US embassy transfer to Jerusalem in accordance with a decision issued by the US president Donald Trump on 6th December 2017.
Trump's decision has stirred widespread Palestinian and international resentment. The Palestinian Authority, for example, decided to freeze its political relations with the US administration, while the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution rejecting attempts to alter the legal status of Occupied Jerusalem.

The US at night thwarted a UN Security Council (UNSC) draft statement condemning the Israeli massacre in Gaza on Monday.
The draft statement, proposed by Kuwait, demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the Israeli crimes, and emphasized the illegality of transferring the embassy of any state in the world to Jerusalem.
The statement, which was approved by 14 countries and rejected by Washington, called on all countries, including the US, to abide by the UNSC resolutions on Jerusalem and its legal and international status.
The statement expressed the UNSC deep concern over the recent developments in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, with East Jerusalem included, and the loss of Palestinian civilians who were practicing their right to peaceful protest in Gaza.
It also asked member states to intensify their efforts to end the blockade on Gaza in accordance with the UNSC resolution 1860 of 2009, and called for sending urgent aid to Gaza to alleviate the catastrophic situation there.
Based on the Kuwait-proposed statement, any decisions or actions that would alter the status or the demographic character of Jerusalem are null and legally void.
For his part, the UN Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine Riyad Mansour expressed his regret at the US move and said that his counterpart at the UN headquarters in Geneva is seeking an emergency meeting of the Human Rights Council to start an independent investigation into what happened Monday in Gaza.
The US on Monday officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem stirring widespread anger. The Palestinians believe that this move is a prelude to full Israeli control over the holy city, including its eastern part which the Palestinians want to be the capital of their future state.
US president Donald Trump on 6th December 2017 recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced his plan to move the US embassy in Israel to the holy city.
Washington had decided to open its embassy in Jerusalem on 14th May which marks the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba when over 760,000 Palestinians were expelled from their lands in 1948.
The Israeli army has killed 113 Palestinians and injured over 12,000 since the launch of the Great Return March in the Gaza Strip on 30th March to demand the right of return for refugees and call for ending a decade-long blockade on the coastal enclave.

The US on Monday opened its embassy in Jerusalem despite the widespread international condemnation and the Palestinian anger that has been escalating for months.
This came as about one million Palestinians were marching along Gaza's eastern border fence a few kilometers from Occupied Jerusalem. So far dozens have been killed and hundreds injured by Israeli gunfire.
The US had premeditatedly decided to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem on the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, the day when over 760,000 Palestinians were expelled from their lands in the 1948 war.
The number of Palestinian refugees, who were replaced with Israeli settlers, has increased to 6 million around the world.
Of the 193 members of the UN General Assembly, 128 countries opposed the US embassy decision, including US allies such as France and Britain.
Israel occupied the eastern part of Jerusalem in 1967 and declared the holy city, with its eastern and western parts, the eternal capital of Israel in 1980, a move which the international community refused to recognize.
About 140 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli occupation forces in the peaceful demonstrations launched since the US president Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017.
At least 55 Palestinians were killed on Monday after being deliberately targeted with Israeli gunfire during protests along Gaza's border fence with the 1948 occupied territories.
Throughout history, Jerusalem has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times and invaded and restored 44 times. The occupation was always destined to end and its true owners were to stay.
