Palestinian medical sources in Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, has reported Monday that at least eleven children suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation, after Israeli soldiers fired gas bombs on them.
The sources said Red Crescent medics provided eleven students of the Zahra’ Elementary School for Girls with the needed first aid after they suffered severe effects of tear gas inhalation.
The children were walking to school, close to the Abu ar-Reesh Israeli military roadblock, in the southern part of Hebron city, when the soldiers fired many gas bombs on them, after preventing them from crossing while on their way to school.
The Palestinians in Hebron face one of the most difficult conditions in the occupied West Bank as the soldiers blockade entire roads and neighborhoods, not just with military roadblocks, but with iron gates, metal detectors and concrete blocks, especially in areas were illegal Israeli colonists reside.
There are four Israeli colonies in downtown Hebron alone, with approximately 500 inhabitants. Around 7000 additional colonizers live in Keryat Arab’ colony, in the outskirts of Hebron city.
Many other settlements, including Givat Ha’avot, Givat Hasrina, east of Hebron, and Beit Haggai colony, south of the city, surround Hebron.

Israeli forces stormed the campus of al-Quds University in the occupied West Bank village of Abu Dis east of Jerusalem's Old City early on Tuesday morning, damaging property, local sources told Ma’an.
Israeli troops raided the university campus at 3 a.m. and left at 5 a.m. For two hours, the soldiers locked campus security guards in one room after breaking their walkie-talkies. The soldiers then ransacked a building hosting the Dean of Students and destroyed property, including printers. The sources added that Israeli forces damaged a Christmas tree that was standing in front of the Dean of Students office. Israeli forces also stormed the Faculty of Islamic Studies, and broke into |
the students activity center, destroying material in an exhibition students were working on.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that as part of “operational activity,” Israeli forces seized material belonging to Hamas’ educational arm al-Kutla al-Islamiyah, including propaganda for Hamas.
The spokesperson added that such propaganda was used for “incitement,” and encouraged “terrorism against Israeli citizens and security forces.”
Both Palestinian and Israeli leadership have accused each other of inciting and encouraging the current wave of upheaval in the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel that began in October.
Israeli forces have stormed university campuses across the occupied Palestinian territory several times since the beginning of 2016, with al-Quds University in particular finding itself a focal point of violent clashes between Palestinian students and Israeli soldiers.
Hundreds of Israeli soldiers stormed al-Quds University in January, confiscating equipment and documents belonging to its student union. Earlier that month, Israeli forces also confiscated and damaged equipment at Birzeit University in a predawn raid.
In March, Israeli forces raided the Tulkarem-area al-Khadoori University twice in 18 hours. The Arab American University in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin was also raided by Israeli forces in March.

The construction of over 50 schools in Gaza has been blocked due to the tough Israeli siege, Assistant Undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Education, Anwar al-Bar’awi said Sunday.
Al-Bar’awi raised alarm bells over the need to construct more schools in the blockaded Gaza Strip due to overcrowding. He said serious efforts have been underway to maximize pupils’ academic output, improve assessment strategies, and develop pedagogical policies.
The official also said the ministry initiated several projects to improve the learners’ reading and writing skills from the first to the sixth grade.
He further announced the launch of the “Active School” project based on team work and aimed at boosting the spirit of cooperation and partnership among the learners.
A so-called “the School Is the Nucleus of Community” is also expected to be launched sometime soon with clubs and workshops aimed at entrenching communal values.

Varkey foundation that awarded the Palestinian schoolteacher Hanan al-Hroub a $1 million prize for her outstanding teaching methods refused an Israeli demand to cancel its prize to Hroub after allegations that the woman's husband participated in an attack that killed at least six Israelis three decades ago.
Israeli occupation authorities attempted to pressure the foundation via its campaign by emphasizing that her husband, Omar, served time in Israeli prison, convicted as an accomplice in a bombing attack that killed six Israelis as they were walking home from sabbath prayers in the West Bank city of al-Khalil in 1980.
According to an Associated Press account at the time, Omar al-Hroub was a chemist who provided chemicals needed for making the bombs. In a statement, the Varkey Foundation refused the Israeli demand and said it does not look into the conduct of candidates' relatives and that the teacher was committed to nonviolence.

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) on Tuesday morning ordered a Palestinian citizen to knock down his own family home in al-Khalil and another to demolish his shop in Occupied Jerusalem.
Coordinator of the popular anti-settlement committee in Yatta town, Rateb al-Jabour, said the IOF rolled into the area and ordered the Palestinian citizen Nasser Abu Eid to self-demolish his family home under the pretext of unlicensed construction.

The shopkeeper Khader Ubeidat said he was shocked when he caught sight of Israeli police troops and special units cordoning off his shop for selling mobile phones.
Ubeidat said his 25-square-meter shop has been there for 25 years and has been providing a living for three families. He added that the IOF ordered him to evacuate the shop within 30 minutes and to immediately start the demolition.
A couple of years ago, the Israeli municipality notified the demolition of the shop but Khader paid over 3,000 U.S. dollars and carried out all legal procedures to cancel the order.
Earlier on Monday, the IOF knocked down the foundations of a building owned by the brother of the Palestinian female detainee Israa Jaabis and forced other civilian families in Silwan to self-demolish their homes under the pretext of unlicensed building.
