Israeli occupation forces ordered today a halt on the construction of two homes in the village of al-Khader, near the city of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, according to local sources.
Hasan Burajiya, a local anti-settlements activist, told WAFA that a large Israeli army force raided the village and ordered two local Palestinian citizens to stop the ongoing construction of their two homes, under the pretext that they are being built without an Israeli permit. The two were identified as Nader Salah and Mohammad Mahmoud Salah.
The occupation forces also banned workers who were working at one of the two homes from completing the construction works, and briefly withheld the working equipment.
The area where the construction is ordered to stop is located in an area classified as Area C of the West Bank, under full Israeli administrative and military control, where Israel rarely issues construction permits to Palestinians, forcing many people to build without permits.
Israel refuses to allow Palestinian development of any kind in Area C, which makes up over 60 percent of the total area of the occupied West Bank, and often demolishes what Palestinians build despite the Israeli ban.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops ordered a Palestinian citizen in the village of Bruqin, near the town of Salfit in the West Bank, to stop the construction of an agricultural facility and a water well, also under the same pretext.

Two Palestinian brothers from the occupied Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan embarked today on demolishing their own home after being pressured to do so by Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem, in order to avoid paying exorbitant costs if the municipality carries out the demolition.
Feras and Iyad Da’na said they were forced to demolish their own home, currently under construction, after the Israeli municipality issued a demolition order against it under the pretext it is being without a permit. video video
The two brothers said unless they did so, they would have been forced to pay around $15,000 to the Israeli municipality if it carried out the demolition on its own.
They pointed out that they tried hard many times to get a building permit to build on their own land, but all in vain.
For many years, Palestinians in Jerusalem are forced to build without a permit because getting a building permit is impossible as the Israeli municipality aims at keeping the city’s Palestinian population at a bare minimum while multiplying its illegal Jewish residents by approving the construction of thousands of new housing units in Jewish settlements.
According to Israeli rights group B'Tselem, the Israeli municipality consistently avoids drawing up detailed urban building plans – a prerequisite for receiving building permits – for Palestinian neighborhoods.
As a result, Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem suffer an extreme shortage of housing, public buildings, infrastructure, trade services and recreational facilities.
It says given this reality, Palestinians in the occupied city have no choice but to build without permits.

A Palestinian man who went to the Israeli High Court today to appeal a decision to demolish his house in Jerusalem's Jabal al-Mukabber neighborhood hoping to get justice from the highest court in Israel, was instead told by the court that he has until Sunday to tear down his house or he will be fined $30,000.
Abdullah Zaatra said that his brother, Yasin, appealed through his lawyer to the High Court against a decision by the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem to demolish his house in five days for construction without permit.
To his surprise, the Court quickly ruled on the matter and ordered Zaatra to either demolish his house with his own hand by Sunday or he will be fined $30,000 if the municipality goes ahead with the demolition.
Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem say they are forced to build without a permit because getting one is an almost impossible task in light of Israel's discriminatory building policy in the occupied city which favors Jewish construction and presence to Palestinian.

Israeli soldiers invaded, Wednesday, the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, west of Salfit in central West Bank, and handed several residents demolition orders and notices for halting construction, allegedly for not being licensed by Israel.
Dr. Tamer Rayyan, the head of Qarawat Bani Hassan Town Council, stated that the soldiers handed five orders targeting buildings in Wad Khalil area, in the western part of the town.
He added that the army stated that the buildings are in Area C of the West Bank, and “have not received approval by the Civil Administration Office,” the administrative branch of Israel illegal occupation of the West Bank.
Rayyan stated that the buildings are two inhabited homes, one agricultural structure, a shed, a barn and one structure used by the families to rest and sit while working on their lands; the homes are owned by Ibrahim Arabi Mer’ey and Mahmoud Mer’ey, while the structures are owned by Mohammad Aziz ‘Aassi and Ibrahim Mer’ey.
The Palestinians have until July 8th to file appeals; however, such appeals are largely denied by the Israeli authorities, an issue that forces many families to demolish their own properties to avoid the excessively high fines and fees.
