Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Wednesday uprooted dozens of Palestinian-owned olive trees to build a settler road in Yasuf village in the West Bank district of Nablus.
Local residents said that this move is just a prelude to the confiscation of vast tracts of Palestinian land in Yasuf and neighboring villages to complete the new road.
At least 3,000 olive trees are expected to be uprooted in the process.
Yasuf, surrounded by three Israeli settlements built illegally on Palestinian land, is one of the most affected villages in Nablus by Israel’s settlement activity.
The Palestinians consider this new road a “dangerous” project that contributes to turning Israel’s isolated settlements in the southern area of Nablus into large cities that would undermine efforts for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Israeli troops Wednesday evening seized two bulldozers in the West Bank districts of Qalqiliya and Ramallah, confirmed witnesses.
Israeli forces escorted a lorry crane into Tannura area, north of Sanniriya town, south of Qalqiliya city, where they seized one of two Palestinian-owned bulldozers that were used for land reclamation. video The raid triggered confrontations as the local farmers attempted to stop the confiscation. No injuries were reported though. Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers seized another Palestinian-owned bulldozer in Dair Qaddis village, west of Ramallah. The bulldozer was also used for land reclamation in the area. |
Soldiers in the oxymoronically named Civil Administration determine where Palestinians may live, where and when they may travel (including to other parts of the occupied territories like Gaza and East Jerusalem), whether they can build or expand homes on their own land, whether they own that land at all, whether an Israeli settler can takeover that land among others.
There are almost 834,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The number of settlers has almost tripled since the Oslo Accords of 1993, when settlers’ number estimated 252,000. Illegal settlements have leapt from 144 to 515 in that time.
Israel’s nation-state law that passed last July stated that building and strengthening the settlements is a “national interest.”

Israeli settlers today torched scores of olive trees in Burin town, south of the West Bank city of Nablus, said a local activist.
Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlement activities in the northern West Bank, confirmed that a group of settlers set fire to olive groves to the south of the town. video
The settlers came from Yitzhar, an illegal colonial settlement inhabited by hardcore fanatic Jews.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces uprooted more than 200 olive trees in the area of Yasuf village, northeast of Salfit.
Extremist Israeli settlers’ violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.
Settlers' violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, attacks on vulnerable homes, among others.

Israeli forces today delivered military orders to seize a plot of land belonging to the farmers of Shufa village, southeast of the northern West Bank city of Tulkarm, according to a local source.
Tahseen Hamed, a local activist, told WAFA that Israeli forces posted military orders in Arabic and Hebrew with an enclosed map showing the location of the plot of land, which occupies an area of 3.5 dunums, near the checkpoint at the junction leading to the village, purportedly for security reasons.
He added that the farmers who own the plot have the legal documents attesting to their ownership of it, noting that the land is planted with olive, fig and vine trees and is considered a source of their livelihood.
The land to be seized is located approx. two-kilometres away from the nearby illegal Israeli colonial settlement of Avni Hevets noting that the village is frequently targeted by Israeli forces who at times prevent farmers from accessing their lands as they continue to raze lands seized to make room for colonial settlement expansion.
Such Israeli measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 53-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.

Israel today disconnected electricity supplied to 19 Palestinian villages and towns, located to the southwest of the northern West Bank district of Jenin, said a municipal source.
Mayor of Yabad Amjad Atatra confirmed that Israeli occupation authorities disconnected power supplied to the franchise areas of Yabad Electricity Authority (YEA), impacting a population of 55,000 in 19 towns and villages purportedly over unpaid debts.
Atatra added that the power outage went into effect at 12:00 PM and affirmed that the YEA and the municipality have all the required legal documents that refute Israeli allegations on unpaid debts.
Meanwhile, YEA Chairman Mohammad Abu Baker denied that YEA is indebted to the Israeli electricity supplier since YEA pays the electricity bill on a monthly basis as attested in the bank transfers.
He pointed out that the electricity cut is deliberately intended to force the heads of the local councils of the affected villages to circumvent the Palestinian Authority and establish contact with the Israeli authorities following the Palestinian leadership’s decision to cease all forms of coordination with Israel.

Israeli troops invaded earlier on Wednesday some parts of the eastern Gaza city, in the Gaza Strip.
Local Palestinian media outlets, including Maan News Agency, said that a number of armored Israeli army vehicles, including three military bulldozers, invaded a border fence area, between eastern Gaza city an Israel, about tens of meters , deep into Palestinian-owned farm lands.
The sources added that the invasion occurred with a number of Israeli drone, hovering over the area and other parts of the city.
No causalities or more details were reported.
Israeli troops are reported to have continued to carry out invasions in different parts of the coastal enclave, quite frequently, since Israel has imposed a siege on Gaza, back in 2007.
In some of such invasions, Israeli army tanks open fire on adjacent Palestinian homes and farm lands, causing injuries of farmers and their family members.

Bulldozers of the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem demolished this morning a Palestinian home and a shop in occupied East Jerusalem under the pretext of construction without a permit, according to local sources.
The demolitions included a house in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan owned by Iyad Abu Sbeih and a shop in Wadi al-Joz neighborhood. video video
Palestinians in East Jerusalem say they are forced to build without a permit because getting one is an almost impossible task. At the same time, Israel builds thousands of housing units for Israelis in illegal settlements built in East Jerusalem on expropriated Palestinian land.
The Israeli human rights organization, B’Tselem, said yesterday that Israel significantly stepped up demolitions in East Jerusalem in June, leaving 51 people, including 31 minors, homeless despite the danger of remaining without shelter during the coronavirus pandemic.
It said Israel demolished 13 homes, double the monthly average in the first five months of 2020. Eight of the homes demolished last month were torn down by their owners after they received a demolition order from the municipality and wished to avoid paying the cost of the demolition and fines to the municipality. Three non-residential structures were also demolished in East Jerusalem in June.

Violent clashes broke out on Monday morning between Palestinian citizens and Israeli soldiers after the Israeli occupation army resumed its bulldozing activities in southern Nablus to build a road for Jewish settlers.
According to local sources, the Israeli army embarked again on bulldozing vast tracts of Palestinian land, about 406 dunums, in Huwara town in order to build a seven-kilometer bypass for settlers.
Local official Ghassan Daghlas said that the Israeli occupation forces bulldozed and destroyed olive groves and agricultural lands belonging to Palestinian citizens near the Huwara military base, which provoked clashes with the locals.
Daghlas pointed out that this road had been approved by the Israeli government in 2014 as part of a project to build several roads for settlers in the West Bank.

Saddam Albarghouthi
Israeli Troops abducted early on Monday and late on Sunday night four Palestinian residents from different West Bank areas.
Palestinian media sources reported that Israeli troop invaded the Bet Rema village, west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah and that Israeli soldiers broke into the home of Saher Albarghouthi, 55, before they abducted Saher and his son, Saddam, 30. video
The sources added that Saddam, the son of Saher, is a former Palestinian prisoner, who was imprisoned by Israel, a while ago.
In the meantime, local residents of the Deir Ghassana village, north of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, took to the streets in protest of an Israeli army invasion, in which Israeli soldiers broke into the home of Mo’tasem Mis-Hel, 25.
They added that Israeli soldiers fired volley of tear gas canisters on protesters, as other soldiers vandalized the home of Mis-Hel, abducted the young man and took him to an unknown destination.
No casualties were reported, as the Israeli troops withdrew from the village, right after the abduction.
Meanwhile, local sources and witnesses in the West Bank city of Jenin, confirmed that Israeli troops abducted last night, former Palestinian prisoner of the Jaba’ village, south of Jenin, while the latter was passing by a military Israeli roadblock, south of the West Bank city of Nablus.
The sources identified the prisoner as Belal Fashafha, 25-years-old, WAFA News Agency reported.
In the northern West Bank city of Jericho, Israeli troops were reportedly invaded the Jeftlek village, north of the city.
Local sources and witnesses said that the invading Israeli army force broke into the home of Mousa Jahaleen and sized his farming tractor, under the pretext of farming in an area that is subject to an Israeli security control.
The Jeftlek village is located in north West Bank area of Alaghwar, on the Jordan Valley, which Israel had earlier announced plans to annex some large parts of which.
Last month, both locals and internationals protested in large numbers in Jericho city, against those plans, as Israel was supposed to embark on annexation of the area, by July1.
The annexation was reportedly postponed, yet Israeli officials signaled intention to ago ahead with the move, which sparked widespread criticism.

Israeli warplanes Sunday evening stroke two sites to the southeast of the city of Gaza, according to WAFA correspondent. video video
He confirmed that Israeli fighter jets fired at least five rockets at a site and an agricultural land to the east of al-Zaytoon neighbrohood, setting on it fire and causing properties damages.
He added that the Israeli artillery fired two shells at another plot of agricultural land to the northeast of the al-Shejaiya neighborhood.
No human casualties were reported, however.
Israel claimed the round of airstrikes in the war-battered strip came in retaliation to a rocket fire from the enclave.
Fourteen years following the Israeli “disengagement” from Gaza, Israel has not actually disengaged from Gaza; it still maintains control of its land borders, access to the sea and airspace.
Two million Palestinians live the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a punishing and crippling Israeli blockade for 12 years and repeated onslaughts that have heavily damaged much of the enclave’s infrastructure.
Gaza’s 2-million population remains under “remote control” occupation and a strict siege, which has destroyed the local economy, strangled Palestinian livelihoods, plunged them into unprecedented rates of unemployment and poverty, and cut off from the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories and the wider world.
Gaza remains occupied territory, having no control over its borders, territorial waters or airspace. Meanwhile, Israel upholds very few of its responsibilities as the occupying power, failing to provide for the basic needs of Palestinian civilians living in the territory.
Every two in three Palestinians in Gaza is a refugee from lands inside what is now Israel. That government forbids them from exercising their right to return as enshrined in international law because they are not Jews.

Israeli settlers torched this morning fields planted with olive trees in the town of Huwarra, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, according to Ghassan Daghlas, a local activist.
He said settlers from the illegal settlement of Yitzhar set fire to dozens of olive trees, causing extensive damage to this vital tree, whose crops are a main source of income to thousands of Palestinian families.
Daghlas, who monitors settlers and settlement activities in the north of the West Bank, said there was recently a surge in settlers' attacks against Palestinian civilians and property in the Nablus area, and in their efforts to grab as much Palestinian land as possible to expand their settlements including the recent setting up of mobile homes on Palestinian-owned land in the town of Assira al-Shamaliya, north of Nablus.
